The Associated Students Finance Committee allocated more than $15,000 for eight different requests at their last meeting of the semester on Monday.

The committee voted 3-1 to allocate $400 to the Student Health Advisory Committee for their “Uninsured Week.”

During the week in question, the group would work with the Student Health Center to inform CSUN students about health insurance.

“We inform the students about the health center and certain health issues,” said Maria Atikyan, president of the organization.

The finance committee voted 3-1 to allocate $720 for a request made by the Wayne and Roberta Colmer Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA).

No representative were present. The group requested the money to help pay for interpretive services to be used at their program in February.

The group plans to hold a two-week site at the Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness and will help deaf taxpayers to complete their tax forms.

The African American Music Association (A2MA) requested $31,000 for their Annual Music Festival.

The organization is asking for the money to help pay for advertising, performers, equipment rental, transportation and other material.

Eriqua Joseph, president of the A2MA, said, “We try to put on a festival to introduce music back into the high school students.”

The finance committee voted 4-0 to allocated $5,000 toward the event.

The fourth item on the agenda was a request of $8,865 by the Chabad organization for their full spring semester budget.

Jonathan Mann, a Chabad representative, said the budget was requested to help pay for eight different events planned for next semester.

The committee voted 4-0 to give Chabad a total of $800. A total of $200 will help pay for an event where Matza balls will be passed out to students.

Another $200 went to the organization’s “Helping Hands” event, where blankets would be made for babies. And $400 would be used for Purim.

The Joint Advocates on Disordered Eating (JADE) asked for $3,300 to help fund their event on Feb. 26th. The event will feature speaker Jean Kilbourne.

Ellen Mayer, advisor for the event, said it was JADE’s 13th year and that the CSUN program was one of the first of its kind. The committee agreed to fund the full request for the event.

The finance committee decided to postpone a request from the American Marketing Association to help pay for their “Damage Control” concert.

The AMA asked for $2,074, with $869 to go toward facility use, $825 for equipment rental, $50 for truck rental and $330 for food and advertising.

The finance committee postponed the request because the event had already happened and much of the request was unable to be funded.

The finance committee voted 4-0 to allocate $1,200 to Salsa Libre to help pay for the organization ?s dance instructors. The organization presents dance lessons to CSUN students and faculty.

Marisa Lomeli, vice president of Salsa Libre, said the group is planning to host a year-end event, at which professional dancers would entertain participants.

The Universe Residency Theater Association (URTA) requested $2,725 to pay for reimbursements and travel. The group is planning on traveling to Las Vegas in February to participate in a conference where they can audition to get into graduate school.

The finance committee voted 4-0 to fund $1,600 to the group.

A request for $2,700 was made by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity for their “Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant.”

James Hermon, chair for the fraternity, said the request would help pay for the location, lighting, band and security.

The committee voted 4-0 to allocated the entire amount.
