Sundial welcomes you to Fall 2008

Welcome everyone to the first day of one of the most highly anticapted semesters in four years.

This November will be a pivotal month for all of us whether you’re voting blue, red or green. In three months we will find out who will be leading our country for the next four years and by the start of the spring semester, the United States will have a new president.

The Daily Sundial is also changing. Not only do we have a fresh new staff this semester, but as you have already noticed, we’ve changed our layout to become more visually friendly and are making a big push to go online to become more interactive with our readers.

Our website,, has been revamped to be more user-friendly. The layout of the website has changed to be more interactive with daily polls and sections for you to share your comments about the articles in the paper and online.

We’re also adding exclusive online content and multimedia so you can keep up on CSUN news before the print edition hits the stands. News happens every second and because many of us are connected 24/7, we hope to keep students plugged in to what’s happening on campus through breaking news e-mails.

With the changes to our website, we’re making changes to our print edition as well. The Daily Sundial will continue with coverage of breaking news events on campus. With the upcoming election, we will also help students be well-informed voters by providing comprehensive coverage of the political buzz at CSUN in the weeks to come.

In light of the many controversial events going on in the country and the world, the opinion section of the paper is encouraging all CSUN students and faculty to contribute their perspective on the most recent issues. The opinion section can serve as a neutral venue to portray multiple challenging viewpoints.

The sports section will have coverage of the latest events on campus available on the website for everyone to read. In addition, the section will be working on having sports columns with a reporter’s perspective on the games.

We’re also inviting non-journalism students to contribute. This is your newspaper and we represent you! We’re looking for anyone who wants to broaden his or her experience by contributing to the Daily Sundial. We can’t guarantee that everyone will be published, but we assure you that everyone will be considered.

With the first day of the semester underway in setting the tone for the months to come, we hope the Daily Sundial’s positive push for change will inspire you to use your voice to make a change at CSUN or in the community. This semester is all about change for the better, both nationally and on a university level.
