This year’s Cypress Hill Smokeout Festival brought together a variety of music fans from all walks of life with one common interest in mind: decriminalizing marijuana. The festival featured three stages with a variety of music genres ranging from hip hop and reggae to ska and electro-house music. The main stage, the Smokeout stage, primarily featured hip-hop and reggae artists such as Damian Marley and Nas, as well as headlining band Incubus. The Indonesia stage featured an eclectic array of music with the likes of Maldita Vecindad from Mexico City. This year, the suitably named Massive Stoned Garden tent mostly featured DJ sets by electronic and house artists with the exception of MGMT. For the first time in the festival’s history, the event concluded at 2 a.m. with a set by Deadmau5 inside the Massive Stoned Garden tent. Another interesting addition was the patient consumption area, where medical marijuana patients were provided with a designated area for the safe and legal consumption of medical cannabis. This year, a Smokeout expo was hosted consisting of different panel discussions where attendees received information about cultivation and legal issues affecting marijuana patients.
