Members of the Jewish community joined in celebration at the USU Grand Salon to witness the completion of the first Torah scroll Sunday.

The new Torah dedicated to the CSUN Jewish Student Center from Israel “represents our faith and support,” said freshman Tal Peled, 22, engineering major.

The celebration opened at 11 a.m. with brunch, mingling and the writing of the final letters on the new Torah.  Conducted by Rabbi Eli Rivkin, Director of Chabad at Northridge completed the writings followed by opening remarks from Rabbi Chaim S. Brook, Director of Chabad @ CSUN and CSUN Provost, Dr. Harry Hellenbrand.

The demonstration concluded with a celebratory parade through campus with the adorned Torah to the Chabad House followed by an afternoon of dancing and lunch.

Peled, who was born and raised in Israel, moved to California and joined the Rohr Chabad House student organization in the last six months.  Since then he and another member of the Chabad House, Meir Tassa, 24,  information technology major, have deeply rooted themselves in the push to see the welcoming of a new Torah on campus.
