Los Angeles gallery owner, Kristin Christian, caught the public’s eye when she created the Facebook page, on Oct. 9, entitled “Bank Transfer Day”, which calls for consumers to transfer their money from big banking institutions to non-profit credit unions on or before Nov. 5 and has over 21,000 ‘likes.’
In an interview with the LA Weekly, Christian said “I was tired of paying fees for inadequate services. I found it disgusting that a large and wealthy corporation would target the working class, especially after the bailout money.”
Christian said she hopes “Bank Transfer Day” will send a clear message to big banks that consumers will no longer stand for their unethical business practices.
