Following a 4-11 start to their season, the Matadors put it together at the Posada Royale Invitational March 2-3 and won four consecutive games to rise their national ranking to 13th, according to the latest CWPA rankings.
CSUN (8-11), which hosts Bucknell and Occidental today, outscored its rivals 56-16 in the matches. It was certainly a strong outing for a team that was coming into the weekend loser of six of its last seven matches. The lone win in the span, however, was against then-seventh-ranked Hawaii.
Northridge will face Bucknell at 2 p.m. and Occidental at 7 p.m. at Matador Pool. Bucknell is on west-coast swing and was last in action this past weekend at the Roadrunner Invitational in Bakersfield, where they split four games.
Occidental is 14-2 this season and comes into Tuesday winner of 13 consecutive matches. Occidental will also face Bucknell at 4 p.m.
The Matadors are led by freshman Marissa Young, who has 34 goals. She has scored at least once in 15 of the team’s 19 games. Sophomore Jenny Jamison follows Young’s lead closely, having scored 32 for the year.
CSUN sophomores Lindsy Nelson and Melissa Doll have scored 19 and 14 goals this year respectively.
