A 21-year-old Garden Grove man turned himself in to the Los Angeles Police Department West Traffic Division at about 3 p.m. March 21 in connection with a hit-and-run accident that killed CSUN student Corinne McClane March 18, according to the LAPD.

Thomas Om, accompanied by his attorney, turned himself in, and was arrested and booked in connection with felony hit-and-run, said LAPD Officer Sandra Escalante.

Om was being held at the Wilshire Area Jail Facility, with bail set at $50,000, March 21.

The tearful memorial for McClane, who was a sorority member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, was March 20 at 7 p.m. in the University Student Union Northridge Center.

McClane, who was a 22-year-old senior kinesiology major, crossed Wilshire Boulevard at Ridgely Drive in the mid-Wilshire district March 18, when she was hit by a car, according to Officer J. Kim, of the Los Angeles Police Department West Traffic Division.

At approximately 6:55 p.m. a large group of people, dressed mainly in black and other solemn colors, gathered in the rain outside of the Northridge Center for the memorial service.

At the opening of the memorial, Jennifer Dineen, president of the CSUN chapter of KKG and junior health science major, told the audience, “(McClane) was a sister, loyal to us all ? She was beautiful, always with a smile.”

For people who never knew McClane, they should know, “She was a phenomenal woman,” Dineen said.

KKG, which organized the memorial, was McClane’s sorority, which she was president during the Spring and Fall 2005 semesters.

The KKG sisters wore purple and white ribbons and blue-on-blue ribbons.

Dineen said the sisters of the CSUN chapter of KKG made the purple and white ribbons together.

The purple in the ribbon commemorated McClane’s color, and the white celebrated her life, said Alisha Murray, senior communications major and KKG member.

The blue-on-blue ribbons are the colors of KKG, which Dineen said were made for their house by the president of the Panhellenic Council, Melissa Davies, and Davies’ Delta Delta Delta sorority sisters.

Throughout the service, the sound of sobbing could be heard from the audience.

Some of those that spoke at the memorial also found it hard to stop their tears while they shared their memories of McClane.

McClane’s roommate and friend, Katie Woolston, a CSUN graduate and KKG alumnus, said she was with McClane the night of the accident.

“I just want everyone to know how happy Corinne was on what would be the last day of her life,” Woolston said, and talked about watching a movie with McClane Friday morning and going to dinner with her that night.

“We toasted to our lives and our futures,” Woolston said after recalling that it was a wonderful dinner.

Woolston closed her speech by telling the audience that McClane’s last moments were filled with laughter. Woolston ran over to McClane after the accident and said she looked peaceful, and everyone knew McClane did not suffer.

Other speakers included Rosette Pambakian, CSUN graduate and KKG alumna, and John Pereyra. Each said they witnessed the accident.

Most of the attendants of the memorial stopped to sign the guest book that was laid out by the entrance, which Dineen said was sent to McClane’s family in San Jose, Calif., along with a taping of the service.

The family of McClane did not attend the memorial because they were unable to make it in time, Dineen said.

KKG expects to start The Corinne McClane Scholarship Foundation soon, she said.

During the memorial, current KKG members and alumni Kristen Fogle, Becky Thomas, Brittany Roberts, Amanda Seibert, and Dena Zelig performed “Flower in the Valley” a cappella.
