The madness begins today.’ CSUN will be looking to shock the world in Kansas City, Miss., today at 9:25 a.m. as they play a Memphis team that is arguably one of the top defenses in the country.’

Solidifying their defensive prowess, the Tigers allowed the lowest field goal percentage of any other Division 1 basketball team in the country.’

In order for CSUN to pull this shocking upset they will need someone to step up and score some points.’

One of the guys that has been performing well for the Matadors lately is senior guard Rodrigue Mels who had 23 points in the Big West Tournament final and has been a great option off the bench this season, averaging about nine points a game.

With Mels coming off the bench, CSUN might have a slight advantage over Memphis because the Tigers don’t have a single guy on their bench that averages over five points per game.

The Matadors leading scorer, forward Tremaine Townsend, will need to play the game of his life for CSUN to pull off an upset that hasn’t occurred since No. 15 seeded Hampton took down No. 2 seeded Iowa State eight years ago.

Another Matador to keep an eye on is junior point guard Mark Hill.’ ‘ The Matadors are lucky that Hill has been able to step up in the absence of Josh Jenkins, who was lost for the season after sustaining internal bleeding in a car accident on Feb. 14.

If Hill can be efficient from beyond the perimeter and get help from his teammates, the Matadors can do the improbable and take down this talented Memphis team.
Memphis freshmen point guard Tyreke Evans will be the biggest obstacle for CSUN as he averages a solid 16.6 points per game.

If the Matadors can upset Memphis they would see either UC Berkeley or University of Maryland in the second round on either Saturday or Sunday in Kansas City.
