Following a 2-1 loss to the No. 24 UC Irvine Anteaters (12-4-3, 7-2-1 BWC) on Saturday night, the No. 20 Matadors (13-5-1, 5-4-1 BWC) failed to secure the Big West South division title and will host the Cal Poly Mustangs (10-8-2, 3-5-2) Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Matadome.
CSUN came out strong against the Anteaters with junior forward Edwin Rivas scoring the game’s first goal in the 11th minute, but yielded two goals to Irvine before halftime which ultimately decided the game.
Northridge needed to win by at least two goals against Irvine to repeat as Big West South champs and secure a round one bye, but failed to do so and will face the Mustangs, who finished third in the Big West North.
The last time the Mustangs and Matadors met, CSUN won 3-1 behind two goals from junior forward Sagi Lev-Ari and six saves from sophomore goalkeeper Adam Hobbs.
If the Matadors win Tuesday, they will travel to Santa Barbara to take on UCSB, the No.1 ranked team in the Big West North, on Friday Nov. 15.
