Men’s Golf: Rough start for Matadors as season resumes at Anteater Invitational

The Matadors got off to a shaky start on Monday as they resumed their season Monday at the Mesa Verde Country Club, placing fifth on day one of the Anteater Invitational.

Senior Kyle Sauer had a productive day stroking a 141 in two rounds, good for a one under-par and third place on the individual leaderboard.

Teammates Michael O’Connor and Michael Sachs opened one over-par and two over-par with a 72 and 73, respectively, before regressing in the second round.  O’Connor and Sachs finished six over-par for the day, tied for 17th in the 41 player field.

Head coach Jim Bracken had faith his team would improve on day two of the Invitational.

“I’ve said it before, we’re a better team than we’re showing but the sun will come up tomorrow and we’ll try to move up the leaderboard,” Bracken said in an interview with Go Matadors.

The team will tee off at 7:25 am today in the final day of the Invitational.
