With a 9-5 record this season, the Matadors are No. 7 in the nation, their highest ranking in school history.
Spreading the ball around has proved a recipe for success this year. Teamwork has been key with five players in double digit goals. The scoring assault has been led in the center of the pool by Junior Marisa Young with 26 goals, while senior attacker Lindsy Duncan follows with 20. Kelcie Ferreira and Jenny Jamison have both found the back of the net 17 times and senior Celena Photopulos has also joined the team scoring leaders with 12 goals.
The recent climb in rankings came after victories over several nationally ranked teams including Big West rivals the No. 12 Long Beach State 49ers.
Among the six teams ahead of the Matadors are the No. 6 UC Irvine Anteaters (11-6), who are the only team ahead of CSUN in non-conference record.
The Matadors jump back into the pool this weekend at the Cal Lutheran Invitational, with doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
