Smoke alarm activated, University Hall evacuated

University Hall was evacuated around 12:55 p.m. after the fire alarms went off.

While welding the ceiling in one of the rooms, a member of Physical Plant Management triggered the smoke alarms.

Nyla Jolly Dalferes, assistant director of the career center, said the building was evacuated for nearly 15 minutes.

“Anytime the alarm goes off we have to evacuate,” Dalferes said. “Floor and department marshals are responsible for (checking the perimeter before letting everyone back in).”

Everyone was given permission to reenter the building around 1:15 p.m.
