Title IX: Caused more damage than good

defaultuser April 18, 2007
I'm pretty sure Title IX was created to appease feminists such as myself. Created in 1972, the federal act implemented a three-pronged system to enforce equality in athletics at universities throughout the United States that recieve federal government funds.

Partial birth abortion ban upheld

On Wednesday morning, the United States Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in favor of banning partial-birth abortions, regardless of the health of the mother. The Partial Birth Abortion Act had previously been passed by Congress in 2003, when the Senate and House of Representatives were both controlled by the Republican Party.

In response to "What's an employee worth," originally published April 9. Dear Editor: On April 9, the Daily Sundial published faculty and staff earnings for the fiscal year 2005/06. This data is accurate for the time period reported, but it is important to know what it is that is being reported.

defaultuser April 16, 2007
On the first day of the "U Matter"-dor Week at CSUN, a counselor and peer educators from Joint Advocates on Disordered Eating held an event to educate students on ideas of beauty and eating disorders on campus on yesterday at the University Student Union. "A Room With a View" sought to use images that promoted all kinds of beauty and inform students about some actions and attitudes that could lead to eating disorders.

Presidential nominee’s special message

defaultuser April 16, 2007
The following column does not signify an endorsement of Dina Cervantes for president. Rather, the Sundial is giving Ms. Cervantes an open forum to discuss the issues her slate is focusing on. Due to an elections scheduling conflict that was out of her control, she was not able to speak out at last night's presidential debate; the following reflects what she would have said if given the chance at the debate.

Voting should be based on issues, not popularity

defaultuser April 16, 2007
I'd like to think that after high school, elections and voting become more than a popularity contest. Yet this is hardly true. Even after we leave CSUN with our degrees, there is the reality of a politically apathetic nation - and one defined by its unrelenting two-party system.

Letter to the Editor

Hello. I am a graduate student in screenwriting, with a perspective to share about the recent events surrounding the screening of "Apocalypto." I think the event at the Cinematheque was, despite the global news brouhaha that came from it, on the whole a highly successful evening.

Letter to the Editor

The current Mel Gibson "Apocalypto" controversy is not only about Mr. Gibson's vulgar, racist and sexist remarks to a Cal State Northridge assistant professor of Central American Studies. Also at issue are racist materials published by the Cal State Northridge Department of Cinema and Television Arts to celebrate Mr.

An open letter to President Koester

defaultuser April 10, 2007
We are writing to express our deep outrage regarding Mel Gibson's use of hate language directed at Dr. Alicia Estrada following the screening of Gibson's "Apocalypto" at CSUN on Thursday March 22, 2007. Since university officials, including John Chandler, the Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communication for the university, have failed to demand an apology from Mr.

An open letter to Professor Estrada

defaultuser April 10, 2007
Dr. Estrada: I write as an individual, at the behest of no one: I represent only myself. You may, or may not, be a fine person in many aspects of your life. I can't know, and I am not offering a blanket attack on your character. However, you have offended my sensibilities deeply.
