Nitrous oxide found in crash

CSUN Police have identified the two men who were arrested Friday after crashing through a fence around the Golf Field in a Chrystler 300 on Zelzah Avenue and Plummer Street. The driver, 20-year-old Flavio Bejar-Gonzalez, is charged with driving without a license and possession of nitrous oxide.

Students compete in Big West ShootOut at CSUN

Students showed off their shooting skills, or lack thereof, while competing in the Big West ShootOut at the Student Activities Center on Thursday. . The 2008 Big West ShootOut, which is touring all Big West Conference campuses, made a stop at CSUN and gave one co-ed team a shot at the big prize - a chance to win $5,000 in March at the Big West Basketball Tournament in Anaheim.

Smoke and water

While 16 wildfires consume southern California and only three of those fires are contained, three major fires continue to burn in the Santa Clarita and Castaic area to the north of CSUN. Helicopters could be seen going back and forth from the Ranch Fire in Castaic and refilling their water tanks in Castaic Lake.

CSUN student’s and professor’s vehicles crashes in front of campus

A 2006 Mercedes Benz rear-ended a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am in front of Nordhoff Hall yesterday. The Pontiac, driven by CSUN sophomore Diego Viramontes, was pushed into the back of a CSUN math professor's vehicle.

Adapting to a new life

Life is in full bloom at the CSUN dorms during the first full week of classes, as students could be seen out and about interacting with one another through both sports and leisure activities. Whether on the basketball or volleyball courts, at the pools or simply hanging out on the balcony, residents are getting to know each other, with many commenting on how nice everyone has been so far.

Onward and upward

Move-in day came once again for CSUN's dorm residents Tuesday, as many nervous and excited students, along with their parents and friends, carried boxes, television sets, radios and other student necessities up staircases. A collective groan could be heard when the residents found out that there was no elevator in Lupin Hall, as well as most of the other buildings.

Final spring show jazzes up CSUN audience

The CSUN Jazz "A" Band played its last show of the semester for more than 100 enthusiastic audience members Thursday at the Plaza del Sol Performance Hall. The band started the show sounding mellow with the horn section harmonizing big band style, but by the time they got to the individual improvised solos, they sounded anything but mellow.

Going Pro

Taylor Canel, senior midfielder and co-captain of the 2006 CSUN men's soccer team, can't think of many things he loves more than playing soccer. It's the reason why he transferred to CSUN. He played at UCLA during his first two years in college, but he wasn't getting enough playing time.
