Hermanos Unidos raise $700 for victims in Peru

Hermanos Unidos, along with several other student organizations, hosted a taco sale last Thursday at Matador Square that brought in about $700 to benefit Peruvian earthquake victims. The group raised $500 from the taco sale and $185 in donations, said Diego Martinez, Hermanos Unidos' treasurer.

Skateboarder cuffed, ticketed by an officer

A 23-year-old male, not a CSUN student, was temporarily handcuffed, then issued a $140 ticket by a campus police officer last Thursday at about 5:32 p.m. for skateboarding outside of Manzanita Hall. His name is Dan Walker. And the police officer asked him to present a California identification card, which was in his vehicle, Walker said.

Those plans are the last thing on the minds of Chad Borak, Sean Franklin, Sunghyun Kim, Robert Pate, Camilo Rojas, Moy Gomez and Kevin Guppy.

Dear Editor, In reading the piece about the proposed queer studies program for CSUN, if it's done,?we should expect it to include all manner of sexual deviance, not?just gays and?lesbians.?? To be a legitimate course of study, and not simply a platform for normalizing the gay lifestyle, it must include pedophilia, necrophilia, pederasty, Oedipus syndromes and some others that probably exist but are not?well known.

RFK Jr. speaks to CSUN at first Freshman Convocation

Kennedy Jr. spoke about why the environment needs to be protected for contemporary people and their children's future during his keynote address at the first annual Freshman Convocation last Thursday. Faculty and staff members, administration officials, as well as other CSUN students gathered on the lawn of the Oviatt Library to welcome and encourage new students as they begin their college careers.

A.S. Finance Committee leaves AIS underfunded

The Associated Students Finance Committee approved to allocate funds to five student organizations yesterday afternoon for upcoming events, but allocated only half of the amount organizations originally requested. The American Indian Student Association requested $9,490 for various awareness events, including the 23rd Annual CSUN Pow Wow, a two-day event in November celebrating Thanksgiving, which will be cosponsored by the city of Los Angeles.

CSUN's Physical Plant Management and equipment technicians from the Science ' Math Science Shop turned several rooms in the basement of Eucalyptus Hall into research labs to better accommodate two new faculty members from the science department. "The project is important to the university because these are esteemed professors that are coming to the school and we wanted to create functional high-tech space for them.

Like many CSUN students, film student Nick Kahn found ways to keep himself busy this summer. While some students worked at summer jobs or took extra classes, Kahn wrote and produced a short film, titled "The Egg Farmer." After raising money for equipment, props, etc.

New G3 structure to be smaller, more expensive than B3 structure

Next time you get a ticket on campus, buy a parking sticker or pull over at an information booth to purchase a $5 daily pass. Your money will be used to build another parking structure. The new structure would increase the campus' total parking capacity by 11,000 spaces in an effort to accommodate the increasing student population and relieve congestion.

Down the halls of Cypress Hall, the sound of an elegantly beautiful piano is heard as Dr. Dmitry Rachmanov, the new assistant professor in the music department, easily produces a sense of calm as he plays the piano. Rachmanov started playing the piano while living in Moscow when he was six-years-old.
