As a water polo goalie recruit riding on a full scholarship at CSUN, Jillian Stapf, a Hudsonville, Mich. native, has not let her school or coaches down since she started playing for the team as a freshman last year. Stapf played in every game last season and even managed to score from her position in the goal.

Katie Dibene October 25, 2007
For the first time since 1988 the Hollywood writers union has been authorized to go on strike, a decision fueled by the lack of proper residuals given to the writers from DVD and internet sales. Authorization to strike was determined in a vote cast by the Writers Guild of America last Thursday.

Reduce gang violence by understanding race

Harriet Miranda October 25, 2007
African-Americans and Latinos have a shared history of oppression, which is why I don't understand the reasoning behind all the racial tensions in Los Angeles among these two ethnic groups. Last week, federal prosecutors brought charges against 60 individuals from the Latino Florencia 13 gang, ranging from racketeering, drug charges and racially motivated crimes against African Americans.

Plastic women have never been so fake in comedy film

Tiffany Kelly October 25, 2007
Men, especially in Los Angeles, are often accused of going after 'plastic' women. Though the word plastic is used metaphorically to describe dull, flirty, materialistic party girls, it is explored in the literal sense in "Lars and the Real Girl." Lars Lindstrom (Ryan Gosling) is a quiet, socially inept young man whose only social activities include attending church and his daily office job.

Rilo Kiley puts away their political shoes for a new image

Tiffany Kelly October 25, 2007
She appears from the curtains wearing only black hot shorts, a tight black bodice, and golden flats. Her fiery red hair flows down her chest, taking up a third of her petite, 5-foot-1-inch frame. She steps up to the microphone wearing a genuine, girl-next-door smile, which is refreshing compared to her audience of Santa Monica hipsters.

CSUN succeeds in season series sweep of UCSB

Ivan Yeo October 24, 2007
Teams that have faced the CSUN women's volleyball team this year are quickly finding out one thing - getting the ball to the Matadors' side of the court can be pretty tough. The Matadors posted 23.5 blocks and 43 blocks assists against the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos at the Matadome Saturday night, as the Matadors defeated the Gauchos in a thrilling five-game match.

Matadors fight Terrapins to tie

Ivan Yeo October 24, 2007
Facing a team like the 27th-ranked Maryland Terrapins on its home field, a place where they had gone 59-2-3, can be a very tough task. However, the CSUN men's soccer team was hardly intimidated by its trip to College Park on Sunday afternoon, and came away with a 1-1 tie.

While 16 wildfires consume southern California and only three of those fires are contained, three major fires continue to burn in the Santa Clarita and Castaic area to the north of CSUN. Helicopters could be seen going back and forth from the Ranch Fire in Castaic and refilling their water tanks in Castaic Lake.

Nearly half of CSUN's currently-chartered clubs for the 2006-2007 school year failed to submit the necessary club recognition documents for the 2007-2008 year by the 6 p.m. deadline Oct. 12.
