Marea Roja by Diana Syrse & ¡Cenicientaaa..! by Marta Lambertini
Join us in celebrating the arrival of spring with an enchanting double bill of contemporary Spanish operas! Experience the powerful narratives of “Marea Roja” by Diana Syrse and “¡Cenicientaaa..!” by Marta Lambertini in our upcoming production.
“Marea Roja” is an opera written in Mexican Spanish by Diana Syrse, debuting in 2012. Translating to “Red Tide,” this opera delves into the topic of violence against women through the real-life stories of three individuals: Nadia Vera, a social anthropologist and activist killed in the Narvarte neighborhood; Kassandra Bravo, a nursing student murdered in Uruapan; and Blanca Montiel, who tragically lost her life to a stray bullet during a shootout in Iguala. Through these accounts, the opera unveils themes of resilience, strength, and courage amidst the challenges of violence.
“¡Cenicientaaa..!” is an Argentinian Spanish opera by Marta Lambertini. It’s a modern take on Cinderella, exploring themes of empowerment and self-discovery. Lambertini’s creative approach, incorporating multilingual elements and nonsensical words, breathes new life into the folk tale.
