HP Releases New Computer Tablet

Hewlett-Packard has released a touch-screen computer tablet that runs on Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system on Friday.

HP is the latest computer maker to step up their game after the release of Apple’s iPad in April.

Dubbed the “Slate 500,” the tablet costs $799 on the HP website, which is more expensive than most iPads. iPad prices range from $499 to $829, depending on wireless connectivity and storage space. The Slate 500 has an 8.9 inch screen and weighs about 1.5 pounds.

The Slate 500, which can hold up to 64 gigabytes of storage space, also features two cameras on the front and back of the tablet as well as a digital stylus pen-both of which are not found on the iPad.

While the Slate 500 has built-in Wi-Fi, it cannot connect to high speed cell networks like the iPad can.

On its website, HP describes the Slate 500 as “the ideal PC for professionals who don’t usually work at a traditional desk, yet need to stay productive in a secure, familiar Windows environment.”

HP adds the tablet can also be used by individuals who use customized Windows applications.

For students who plan to enter the fields of business, health care and even hospitality, this tablet computer seems to be a solid investment.
