For the second straight game, the Matador’s fell behind in the opening half. And for the second straight game, they came back. The Matadors put up some scoring on the board, getting goals from five different players to defeat the Southern Utah Thunderbirds 5-2 at Matador Soccer Field on Friday.

After a full week off following their 2-1 opening day overtime victory against the San Diego State Aztecs, the CSUN women’s soccer team will play two games in three days this weekend.

Cal State Northridge senior captain Nalena Betancourt scored the game-winning goal with 4:34 left in the second sudden-death overtime period to give the Matadors a 2-1 opening day victory over the San Diego State Aztecs on Friday at Matador Soccer Field. The goal came off a Northridge corner kick and was assisted by freshmen Nancy Avesyan and Brielle Slepicoff.

The 2008 CSUN women’s soccer team is one with talent and potential, but also one with a tough road ahead of them if they want to reach their ultimate goal of a Big West Conference championship.
