UPDATE 8:12: Police services has sent out a final alert that no suspect has been found. They will notify the community if anything changes and will continue to survey the campus.

UPDATE 7:24: CSUN PD has said there has been no further activity to report, but if anything changes, the campus will be notified.

“There is nothing further to report,” Chandler said. “The campus police will remain vigilant.”

UPDATE 7:15: Capt. Scott Vanscoy said, “The alleged suspect walked out of the library southbound off campus. We’re searching all buildings. It’s a big campus.”

According to Villalobos, LAPD had informed CSUN of the suspected gunman on campus earlier today.

UPDATE 7:00: There are no longer helicopters around campus.

UPDATE 6:26: LAPD officer Wilkinson said, “We do not have any units on the call.” When asked if LAPD had any intention of sending any officers to campus, Wilkinson said, “That is not up to us. That is if CSUN PD calls.”

Christina Villalobos, public information officer, also said that the campus is active and classes are still in session.

“There will be no evacuations or interruptions on campus,” she said.

UPDATE 6:12: “The campus remains open. There was no evacuation at any point,” said Carmen Chandler, director of news and information. “The was an assessment made by the campus police chief. The campus remains open (and) the library remains open. But we continue to look for the suspect.”

UPDATE 5:53: Two helicopters are hovering over the south end of campus near Nordhoff Street. Sirens have been heard on the east side of Nordhoff Street.

UPDATE 5:52: Despite reports from other media, there is still an investigation and search for the gunman.

UPDATE 5:49: Helicopters have moved to just west of campus.

UPDATE 5:48: The campus will remain open and classes are still in session.

UPDATE 5:34: Officers have said they are searching each building on campus for the suspect.

UPDATE 5:33: A call from CSUN PD informed the campus of the suspect they are looking for.

UPDATE 5:30: Four people have fit the description of the gunman and were detained and then released.

UPDATE 5:29: CSUN PD has sent out an e-mail warning students, faculty and staff about the suspected gunman on campus.

UPDATE 5:13: The area southwest of the Oviatt Library has been blocked off by police.

CSUN Police Services has reported a sighting of a man on campus with a gun who was last seen leaving the basement of the Oviatt library.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned man in his early 20s with a 5o’clock shadow wearing a red T-shirt under a black zip-up jacket with a black backpack with a silver gun. Police are searching the area for the suspect.

Two helicopters are aiding in the search.
