William Watkins, vice president of student affairs, and Brandon Martin, director of athletics, took some time to talk to students at the annual CSUN President’s Lunch event.
The Orange Grove Bistro cooked a lunch of hamburgers and veggie burgers, and also served watermelon and chips.
Server volunteers were made up of CSUN staff from many departments across campus including postal, athletics, and finance.
Daisy Perez, CSUN employee, was one of the volunteers, “We’re here for the students! We want to say hi.”
Over 150 staff had volunteered for an hour shift.
“We don’t always see them on the best terms,” added Marilluvia O’Daniel, also from admissions, “It’s nice to see them out and happy.”
“It’s part of CSUN culture,” Francesca Vega from Office of Student Advancement, “It’s tradition!”
The Valley Performing Arts Center was doing a raffle to give away two tickets to an upcoming performance by Sinbad, a comedian.
Associated Students was playing music and discussing projects with students while the IT department was answering technology related questions.
CSUN President Dianne Harrison was not seen at the event but her secretary confirmed she was there at 12:30 p.m.
A dinner is scheduled for today from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
