Women’s Tennis: Matadors Bounce Back to Defeat Towson 6-1

The Matadors (10-1, 3-1 Big West) regrouped from their first loss of the season by defeating the Towson University Tigers (8-7, 1-2 Colonial Athletic Association) 6-1 at the Matador Tennis Complex Tuesday.

Sophomore duo Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei improved to 10-1 on the season and 27-4 overall at CSUN as a doubles team by defeating freshman Lucy Williams and freshman Nicole Shakhnazarova, 8-3.

Sophomore Vivian Lin and sophomore Mari Taslagyan were paired together for the first time this season and defeated senior Cailey Easdale and freshman Barbora Vasilkova in a tight battle, 8-6.

In singles play, the Matadors lost the first draw and won the next five draws. In the second draw, Hsu defeated sophomore Sophie Lesage, 6-1, 6-3.

In the fourth draw, senior Criss Rodriguez defeated freshman A.J. Gomer, 6-3, 6-3, improving her record to 9-1 on the season. In the sixth and final draw, Taslagyan defeated freshman Renate van Oorschodt, 6-3, 7-5, improving her record to 3-0 on the season.

The Matadors next match is against the University of Wyoming (6-5), who are in the middle of a four-game road trip, on Friday, March 20 at the Matador Tennis Complex. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
