[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]26 sexual assaults on campus were reported to the CSUN Police Department in the last five years, according to crime log data from CSUN PD.
However, a 2007 study from the U.S. Department of Justice found that one out of five undergraduate women experience an attempted or completed sexual assault during their college years, suggesting there is still a problem with under-reporting of sexual assault crimes.
Here is the breakdown of the reported assaults at CSUN since 2011:
- 12 of the sexual assault related crimes were reported in the UPA student dorm complex.
- Seven out of the eight rapes occurred in student housing.
- More than half of the victims of the reported sexual assaults were female, one was reported male.
- There were 17 reported assaults of “fondling,” seven reported rapes, one sexual battery report and one statutory rape.
- Most of the reported “fondling” occurred on campus.
- Three reports of “fondling” occurred in parking structures, B5, B3 and G3.
