Matadors lose home-opener against UC Irvine

The women's volleyball team lost a tough match 3-1 Friday night in its home-opener against the UC Irvine Anteaters. Head coach Jeff Stork said he was happy with his team's performance in the match, during which three of the four games were decided by only a few points: 20-30, 26-30, 30-26, 27-30.

Matadors fourth in season opener

The CSUN women's golf team finished in fourth place (329-314-643) in its opening tournament at the La Quinta Mountain Shootout in Flagstaff, Ariz. on Sept. 17 and 18. Northern Arizona (324-307-631), the tournament host, won the tournament by just one shot as New Mexico State (324-308-632) followed in second place.

CSUN hosts UCLA Saturday

The CSUN men's soccer team will play its last non-conference match this weekend, hosting the 10th-ranked UCLA Bruins at Matador Soccer Field on Saturday. The Matadors are coming off a 4-0 loss to No. 28 New Mexico last week. The loss was the first time CSUN has lost by more than one goal in the last 11 losses.

It's hard not to feel left out these days. It's bad enough that Los Angeles doesn't have a football team, but since CSUN's football program was eliminated in 2001, students haven't been able to experience the joy and pain of cheering for Matador football. Until now.

Big West gets bigger

The Big West Conference expanded to nine teams this season with the addition of UC Davis, which officially joined the confernce on July 1. CSUN has faced UC Davis many times, as the Aggies have spent the last four years undergoing a reclassification from Division II to Division I.

The CSUN men's soccer team lost 4-0 to No. 28 New Mexico at Matador Soccer Field on Thursday in a non-conference match. The Matadors took seven shots during the game, but were unable to put any of those shots into the goal.

The CSUN men's soccer team returns to Matador Soccer Field at 4 p.m. today to face the 28th-ranked New Mexico Lobos. The Matadors are on a two-game winning streak after beating Cleveland State 2-0 and UNLV 1-0 in the UNLV Adidas Invitational in Las Vegas last weekend.

The CSUN women's soccer team will face the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine at Matador Soccer Field on Friday at 3 p.m. The Matadors are coming off a 3-1 loss to UCLA at home last Sunday and have a 1-4-1 record. The Rainbow Wahine are undefeated, with a 5-0-1 record.

CSUN goes winless over weekend at USD tourney

The women's volleyball team closed out its pre-conference tournament schedule without a win in three matches at the USD Tournament at Jenny Craig Pavilion in San Diego this past weekend. CSUN was swept by UCLA, USD and Pittsburgh in the tournament and dropped to a 3-9 record.
