The mixing of colors to form shapes and images that evoke emotions and feelings can leave a lasting impression. The new mural at the Chicano/a House on North University Drive "captures the perspective of the oppression (Chicanos have had to face over) time," said artist Wenceslao Quiroz.

New paved walkway complements Chicano House mural

Take a walk down to the Chicano House and glance around. Notice that instead of standing on dirt, there is a nice paved walkway between the house and the annex that was completed last May. Instead of a yellow brick road, there are faded red pavers joining the house and the annex, making a patio-like setting for events.

Villaraigosa officiates at same-sex wedding

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa officiated the wedding of the producer of the Oscar-winning film "American Beauty" and his partner of five years on June 23. Villaraigosa, who was deputized to perform marriages, married Bruce Cohen, the producer, and Gabriel Catone, his partner, inside the mayor's press conference room in downtown L.

North Hills couple first to wed after beating marriage ban

Two North Hills women made history in front of a courthouse last week when they commemorated their love for each other. State law gave its blessing. The Beverly Hills courthouse issued Robin Tyler, 66, and Diane Olson, 55, who challenged the state's ban on same-sex marriage and won, a marriage license on June 16.
