Men’s swimming defeats Cal Poly, women’s places fourth

The CSUN men's swimming team defeated Big West Conference opponent Cal Poly Mustangs by a score of 188-106, but the women's team finished fourth at the Cal Poly Invitational on Dec. 2 at Sinsheimer pool. The men's team only competed against Cal Poly while the women's team on top of Cal Poly had to deal with Loyola Marymount, University of San Diego and the University of Nevada, Reno as well.

Familiar foes head to St. Louis

One year ago, the Cal State Northridge men's soccer team had its championship run end in New Mexico in a 1-0 loss to the Lobos. This year, the Matadors failed to qualify for the tournament altogether, yet something else seems just as unsettling. Four teams remain in the championship run and CSUN is more than qualified to be named on the same list as these four remaining teams.

Swim teams finish 9th

The CSUN men's and women's swim teams both finished in ninth place at the UC Irvine Speedo Cup at the Belmont Plaza in Long Beach on Nov. 16-18. The meet featured several top-ranked swim teams, such as Stanford and USC. "I'm sure that helped inspire us," head coach Barry Schreifels said.

Matadors perform well at Loyola

The Cal State Northridge women's swim team competed in the third annual Pentathlon hosted by Loyola Marymount University at the Burns Aquatic Center on Nov. 11. The Matadors competed against LMU and the Pepperdine Waves and performed well. In the 200-yard freestyle, CSUN junior Sanda Jukic finished in first place with a time of 1:57.

CSUN places 23rd at Regionals

The Cal State Northridge men's cross country team finished in 23rd place with a total score of 653 at the NCAA West Regional Cross Country Meet in Blue Lake Park in Fair View, Ore. on Nov. 11. Senior Manuel Ruiz finished in the top spot for the Matadors and 71st place overall.

Men’s golf places 7th at Invitational

The California State University, Northridge men's golf team finished in seventh place with a combined score of 870 at the Pacific Invitational held at Brookside Country Club in Stockton on Nov. 6-8. The Matadors started off strong in the first round, but fell three spots by the end of the tournament.

CSUN closes out season in 9th place

After scoring a 323 to end the first round in eighth place, the California State University, Northridge women's golf team scored a 329 in the final round, dropping them to ninth at the Firestone Grill/Cal Poly Invitational, held at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande Nov.

CSUN win streak not enough

Despite winning their final three games of the season, including a 1-0 win over No. 21 UC Irvine, the CSUN men's soccer team must still watch conference rival UC Santa Barbara Gauchos walk away with the Big West Championship and the only playoff berth in the conference.

Small mistakes costing Cowboys too much

No matter what the outcome of the game, the Dallas Cowboys seem to find themselves in the spotlight week after week. From the beginning of the season with the Terrell Owens training camp fiasco to the starting quarterback change, the Cowboys' season has been a rollercoaster.

CSUN places ninth in Simi

After three rounds of play, the CSUN men's golf team finished in ninth place with a total score of 904, shooting scores of 299, 304 and 301 at the Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley. Senior Joe Lopez had the best performance of the day for the Matadors as he scored a two under par performance after three rounds.

Cross country finishes 7th

Both the women's and men's cross country teams finished in seventh place at the Big West Cross Country Championships hosted by Cal Poly Oct. 28. The Matadors placed at the bottom of the list in the men's competition, finishing last with 192 points. The Mustangs finished in the top spot with 29 points to give them their fourth straight Big West Championship.

CSUN finishes in 16th

After three days of competition the CSUN women's golf team was unable to produce an impressive round performance as they placed last at the Kent Youel Invitational held at the Kapolei Golf Club in Hawaii Oct. 23-25. The Matadors posted scores of 330 in the first round, 335 in the second and 329 in the final round, giving them a total score of 994 for 16th place.
