CSUN students win at regional competition

The Civil Engineering Department at CSUN took first place overall out of 18 schools that competed for the prestigious steel bridge category at the Pacific Southwest Regional Conference. The PSWRC features universities that participate and compete in various events, including the steel bridge, concrete canoe, seismic structure, impromptu design and surveying.

Track athletes continue to break school records

The men and women of the CSUN track and field team have posted many fine performances this season and lead the Big West in several events. This outdoor season has also produced two new school records by the women's team, one on the track by senior Deanna Goodwin in the 400-meter dash and the other in the pole vault by junior Krystal Quinn.

More attention should be paid to child soldiers

The use of children in war, and their subsequent education about how to evade people who want to use them or how to use the weapons of war, is a tragic testament to the idea that children are no longer children, but small commodities. A documentary, "Invisible Children" was made by three college-aged adults about the times they travel from San Diego, Calif.

Jamba Juice to close its doors after six years at CSUN

Jamba Juice employees and students were surprised and disappointed to find out that the store's location at the Matador Bookstore complex will be closing Friday as part of food court renovations. "Not only does it affect us as employees, it affects our customers," said Danielle Libby, an acting store manager at Jamba Juice.

Matadors steal two victories in Santa Barbara

The CSUN Matador softball team had a solid up in Santa Barbara this past weekend, as they took both games of a doubleheader with the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos on Saturday before the Gauchos rebounded to take the final game the next day. In game one of the doubleheader, The Matadors had to wait three innings before they got on the board.

Multimedia dance performance comes to CSUN

Dancers, actors, vocalists and videographers come together to create a surrealistic interpretation of quantum physics in a performance titled "Rage to Know," which will be appearing at CSUN on April 28. Soothing violin, upbeat tempos and abstract vocals make up the backdrop for the four members of Donna Sternberg and Dancers as they use their bodies to inspire thought of some of the most complex theories in present day.

Future looks bright despite postseason loss

The seventh-seeded CSUN Matador men's volleyball team certainly proved it could stay with the second-seeded BYU Cougars in its Mountain-Pacific Sports Federation quarterfinal matchup Saturday night. However, trying to beat the Cougars in a single-elimination match, in Provo, Utah nonetheless, proved to be a daunting task, as the Cougars held off Northridge, ending the Matadors' season with a three-game sweep by scores of 30-26, 30-28 and 30-26.

Senators’ generosity in full force with newfound money

The senators were in generous moods at the Associated Students' Senate meeting on Tuesday as financial allocations were more than doubled for some student requests. With the Unallocated Reserves recently replenished, senators proposed more funding and agreed on the amendments for proposed requests from Julia Schlosser for a conference in Tasmania, Australia, and Atesha Jones, who will be attending the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France.

Haverstock elected A.S. president for 2007-08

Associated Students Director of Finance Adam Haverstock was elected A.S. president for the 2007-08 school year in a run-off election that took place Tuesday and Wednesday. According to Director of Elections Leonard Wong, Haverstock secured 55.78 percent of the vote with 507 votes.

Love was one of the themes of "Disenchanted," a graduate student art exhibit by Donna Hicks that opened April 21 in CSUN's West Gallery. The exhibit included 12 works by Hicks. Littia Peete, Hicks mother used to draw with her daughter when Donna was young.
