Safety Spray

Several varieties of pepper spray were used at Wednesday night’s basics of pepper spray defense workshop. The event was part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) to help raise public awareness about sexual violence (focusing on sexual assault and rape) and to educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence. Pepper sprays can definitely be effective! I gave my GF a keychain spray and she had to use it one night in her apartment complex – it gave her time to get away from the situation, very glad she had learned to use it!

I think schools should have more education about relationships and positive touch as well. If everyone in school learned about healthy and unhealthy relationships, people would be able to make better choices on both sides of the equation. We have been talking about this at sex chat space this week. Many people have learned enough history and math to give lectures, but know little about being good human beings.

I also think more education needs to be made available for people learn positive ways to get anger out, and better communication skills in general as well. If society wants to reduce violence, we need to educate about healthy ways to get anger out, and discuss more about healthy touch and communication.
