Sleep to save electricity and yourself

We could be saving energy everyday by going to sleep an hour earlier or more than our usual sleep time.

The idea of wasting less energy by turning lights off for an hour on Earth Day started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, when over 2 million homes and businesses turned off the switch.

There are several advantages of taking an extra hour of rest. By going to bed an hour early, you’ll be up an hour earlier and you’ll have the opportunity of enjoying the morning fresh air, by walking, exercising, or getting a head start on your day.

Another advantage is the intake of food. When people sleep more, they eat less and make smarter eating choices.

When someone is awake late at night, unconsciously, food is one the first things people go after. At the Experimental Biology 2009 meeting, an annual conference that holds over 10,000 scientists from all over the world, it was brought sleep researchers to conclude that sleeping less brings people to eat more, thus wasting electricity by having lights turned on longer.

By saving electricity, you’ll be saving money and even your bad eating habits, if any.

Always keep in mind the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Though, with the idea of sleeping an hour early or more, you will be going by these 3 Rs, too:
Rest, Recover, Regenerate.
