What did you give up for Lent?

It’s been one week since Lent began last Wednesday. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. The Christian practice of penance lasts 40 days, ending on Easter Sunday.

For some, sacrificing something you enjoy requires discipline and reflection during this penitential period. For others, it might be something more profound as a life-changing event. It also might be a good time to kick some pesky little habit, not necessarily for religious reasons.

There is an entire spectrum of categories to choose from, but for the sake of space, it’s better to narrow it down to just two.

First, there’s anything in the technology category. It could be social networking, texting (vow to talk instead) or no television several days during the week.

Second, there’s the most common category which is food. Given today’s need- to-connect-climate, it might be easier than the technology category. You could give up Starbucks, Red Bull, fast food or sugary snacks.

Whatever you have chosen, the faithful believe your life will be enriched because of your sacrifice – at least for 40 days.

For those of you who are suffering from a possible case of separation anxiety, just how are you doing so far?
