If the name Chis Glover doesn’t catch your attention, you’re not alone. It’s probably why Glover goes by the stage name Penguin Prison, the multifaceted electropop artist from New York. He is one part producer, one part musician, and known for some of the best pop remixes of the last few years — a career-best being the most infectious re-imagining of Lana Del Rey’s “Blue Jeans” heard anywhere, ever. Once a solo act, Penguin Prison has upgraded to a full live band for their ongoing tour, and with only one L.A. gig, you’d be a fool to miss out. Get there early to catch openers Party Nails and Teenage Mystics.

Do your roommates hate you because you’re singing too loudly in the shower again? Thursday 2.11 — Concert — David Bowie Tribute Night and Cancer Research Benefit Show at The Smell

The Smell is hosting a benefit concert to commemorate one of rock music’s fallen but far from forgotten heroes. This event will feature cover sets by Arjuna Genome, Slow Hollows/Casinos supergroup Gimme Danger, Nevada’s own Current Joys, as well as a DJ set by the venue’s owner, the eminent Jim Smith. Friday 2.12 — Cultural Event — 2016 Lunar New Year at Santa Monica Place

Saturday 2.13 — Comedy/Film Showing — John Waters’ “This Filthy World: Filthier and Dirtier” LA Premiere

Filmmaker John Waters returns with a modified version of his one-man show, “This Filthy World: Filthier and Dirtier,” this Saturday at California State University L.A. His filmography boasts some of the best cult classics of the last century [see “Pink Flamingos,” or “Polyester”] while films like “Hairspray” and “Cry Baby” did some serious damage to cookie-cutter Hollywood. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster. A student discount can be applied in-person at the Luckman Box Office.

Sunday 2.14 — Movie Screening — “Harold and Maude” Screening at Sunnyside Cemetery

Nothing says “love is eternal” like spending Valentine’s Day in a cemetery. As part of an annual and wonderfully off-beat tradition, the Frida Cinema, in coordination with Sunnyside Cemetery in Long Beach, will screen “Harold and Maude,” the 1971 love-story-meets-nihilistic-commentary, set to Cat Stevens classics. Monday 2.15 — Music — Rat Pack Mondays at Salvage Bar and Lounge

Before Taylor Swift’s Girl Squad, there was the Rat Pack. Revisit a golden era of music and class every Monday at Salvage Bar and Lounge in Downtown L.A. Appropriately called Rat Pack Mondays, the event features music from Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin and others, as well as promotes a signature drink menu.
