Civil Rights Pioneer: A Symposium on Judge Loren Miller

CSUN will host a presentation, where Dr. Amina Hassan will speak to the audience about her recent work, Loren Miller: Civil Rights Attorney and Journalist. The event will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Oviatt Library Ferman Presentation Room and is free of charge.

Film Screening: 10,000 Black Men Named George

CSUN offers a Q&A with special guest Robert Townsend, a producer, director, writer, and actor. The screening will cover Union activist Asa Philip Randolph’s efforts to organize the black porters of the Pullman Rail Company in 1920s America. The event is free and will be held in the Armer Theatre from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Space is also limited, so those attending must register online.

Students can register for Serenity Yoga, which brings healing and balance to the body’s systems. This Hatha-based yoga class targets relaxation and includes posture, breath and meditation. The event will occur from 11 to 12:10 p.m. in the Oasis Wellness Center Reflection Patio and is free of charge.

The Oasis Wellness Center will hold a meditation event, which looks to remove stress and replace it with a dose of inner peace and is a great tool to balance your emotions, deal with physical and psychological distress and promote the peace of the present moment. The event will be held from 4-4:55 p.m. in the Vitality Room and is free to all CSUN students looking for a relaxed evening.

CSUN Wind Ensemble

Bring your phone or Wi-Fi smart phone to CSUN’s annual interactive concert at the VPAC Great Hall at 7:30 p.m. Students will have chances to win prizes by answering questions about the compositions being performed. The costs of the event range from $7-15.

Centering with Scents: Introduction to Aromatherapy and Guided Meditation

The Oasis Wellness Center will put on a 30-minute workshop in the Oasis Wellness Center Radiance Square, which gives students an introduction to aromatherapy and guided meditation. Students can learn techniques to help manage stress and will include an experiential portion that will allow students to exercise aromatherapy. The event, which is free to all CSUN students, will hold two sessions from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to noon.

The Lost and the Living: One Family’s Journeys from the Old World to the New, and Back Again

Los Angeles native Lisa Lainer-Fagan shares her research and family trip to Lithuania geared towards the fate of her great-uncles and aunts, who vanished during the Holocaust. The slide-lecture will be held from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. at Sierra Hall 451 (Whitsett Room). The cost of the event is free.

“Eating Healthy on a Budget” Workshop

Register for a workshop, called “Eating Healthy on a Budget,” where the Oasis Wellness Center helps students learn how to budget food, maximize nutrition and get ideas for cheap meals and snacks. The workshop will take place from 11 to noon and is free to students.

“Cultivating Mindfulness” at the Oasis Wellness Center

Oasis Wellness Center will be hosting a workshop called, “Cultivating Mindfulness,” which aims to teach you meditation techniques that will help you gain a more relaxed, stress-free life. The workshop is free to all CSUN students from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Serenity/Vitality Meeting Room, located in the Oasis Wellness Center.

The university will hold a 164-minute film about Andrei Tarkovsky and the mixture of elements from the science fiction genre with dramatic philosophical and psychological themes. The film will begin at 7 p.m. in the Armer Theater (MZ100) and is free to all attendees. The doors will open at 6:45 p.m.

The Kindness of the Hangman

The event will cover Dr. Henry Oster’s, The Kindness of the Hangman, which tells a fascinating story about the 2,011 Jews who were captured by the Gestapo and deported from Cologne, Germany. The event, which will be held in Jerome Richfield 319, will start at 7:30 p.m.

“Let’s Beat Test Anxiety” Workshops

Dr. Saimir Thano of University Counseling Services will lead a workshop, which teaches ways to manage and improve your anxiety when it comes to test taking. The event takes place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the Oasis Wellness Center and is free of charge for all students on campus.

Get CPR, AED and First Aid Certified in One Day at the SRC

For $45 CSUN students can take classes to get certified in CPR, AED and First Aid. This opportunity will be held from 9 to 4 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center and required those interested to register online.
