The California Faculty Association members voted on Monday with a 95% approval to authorize a strike, which should permit the CFA Board of Directors with the jurisdiction of calling a strike when needed.
CFA members emphasized the need for better working conditions, more counselors, safety services for faculty, increased paid leave for parents, gender-inclusive restrooms and changing rooms and many more.
The CFA Bargaining Team and CFA Board of Directors convened multiple times to reopen bargaining on Articles 20, 23, 31 and 37, which lists all of the requests the CFA members have made. Despite this, CSU management have yet to act on their demands.
They have been told by CSU management that their requests are too expensive despite a CFA fiscal analysis showing they have more than enough to spare.
CFA members are partitioning a deal that handles extensive issues on college campuses such as mental health services, class sizes and insufficient pay. They plan to head down to Long Beach on Nov. 7, bringing their requests to the trustees and Chancellor Mildred García at the CSU Board of Trustees meeting.
