Matadors vs. Gauchos Men’s Baseball Live Updates

This is David Denenberg reporting live from the CSUN Daily Sundial.

After a three run third inning the Matadors have knotted the game up at 4-4 going into the fourth inning.

In the third inning third baseman Jason Dabbs finally got it right as he threw Gunnar Terhune out at first after a bunt.

Unfortunately for CSUN, Gauchos centerfielder Brian Gump jacked a two run bomb to give the gauchos a 6-4 lead.

After the Big West leading batting average Ryan Cavan walked then Eric Oliver of the gauchos grounded out to end the inning.

C.J. Belanger is at the bag as CSUN is down two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Belanger has struck out as Richard Cates is up with one out.

The Matadors had a promising stretch as D’Anna blasted a ground -rule double over th centerfield fence putting John Parham up at the plate with runners in scoring position.

John Parham has connected on a clean hit to left field to score both Cates and D’Anna and tie this game up at 6-6 here in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Shane Carlson grounded out to begin the fifth inning and then Matt Valaika flied out to right field.   Currently Robby Cummings is at the bag with two outs.

Leading off in the bottom of the fifth CSUN second baseman Justin DeMarco hit a double as Dabbs is now at the plte with no outs and a runner in scoring position.

After the double from DeMarco, Dabbs came through with a double of his own scoring DeMarco to take a 7-6 lead.

CSUN is now up 8-6 as Belanger hit into a double play that scored Dabbs.  Richard Cates is up now with two outs and no runners on.

Cates has gotten on base and now stolen second to put himself in scoring position with Pineda at the plate.

Pineda has grounded out but the Matadors get some help with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

John DeAlba of the Gauchos has made this game one run closer with a solo home run prompting CSUN Head Coach Steve Rousey to go to his bulletin for Jimmy Jolicoeur.

Jolicoeur has delivered for his Matador teamates in the sixth inning as he picked off a runner at second then struck out another batter but the gauchos did tie the game at 8-8 on a sacrifice hit from Brian Gump.

John Parham is keeping this track meet alive as he has reached third base on an error from Gauchos second baseman Matt Valaika.

DeMarco is up to bat after designatd hitter Chris Hannick walked putting runners on the corners here in the bottom of the sixth with one out.

After a DeMarco strikeout CSUN second baseman Jason Dabbs grounded out to end the inning.

UCSB has taken a one run lead here in the top of the seventh 9-8 after an RBI double from Valaika.

UCSB is pushing the Matadors hard here in seventh as they have managed to load the bases with one out.  There’s currently no bullpen activity for the Matadors.

UCSB has capitolized on the this situation by scoring two RBIs on a Mullins ground rule double.  Then the following batter Terhune hit a double of his own to give the Gauchos a commanding 13-8 lead here in the top of the seventh.

After that five run onslaught that Jolicoeur suffered, Bryan Longpre has been sent in to pitch for the Matadors.

Ryan Cavan of the gauchos has just scored another  two runs for the Gauchos on a two RBI base hit.

Shane Carlson of the Gauchos blasted a grand slam to give his team an 18-8 lead.

After eleven runs on eight hits, the seventh inning stretch has finally arrived as the Matadors find themselves down 19-8.

Reed and Belanger have both grounded out to begin the bottom of the seventh inning.   Cates stayed in character with a base hit to left field and then Pineda blasted a two run homerun to make the game 19-10.

Dominic D’Anna took a ball deep to make the game 19-11.  The homerun is the fourth of the season for D’Anna.

The pitching is getting rocked here  at Matador Diamond as Westley Wright has entered the game for the Matadors with runners on first and second base.

Chris Hannick is on base safely in the bottom of the eighth after a base hit.  Justin DeMarco is at bat with the Matadors trailing 20-11 here in the bottom of the eighth.

DeMarco dropped a base hit to bring TS Reed to the plate who popped out to center bringing C.J. Belanger up to bat with two outs.

Belanger has kept this game a little interesting as he just drove in another run to make the game 20-12 in favour of the Gauchos.

With one chance left to get nine runs, Pineda is leading off here in the bottom of the ninth.

The game has just gone final as the Gauchos cruised by the Matadors 21-12 in this offensive clinic at Matador Field.
