A group of student organizations at CSUN are planning an anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) rally on Feb. 3 on campus at Matador Square. A flyer promoting the rally, titled “ICE OUT OF THE 818,” was posted on Instagram on Jan. 30 and shared across the platform.

The event is being organized by Transborder Experiences of Central American University Students of CSUN (TECUS), CSUN Black Student Union (BSU), Movimiento Estudiantil Chicane de Aztlán of CSUN (M.E.Ch.A) and Students for Justice in Palestine at CSUN (SJPAT). These organizations jointly shared the post, urging students to attend and stand up against ICE.
“Students in Minnestoa have called for NO BUSINESS AS USUAL and CSUN is ready to ANSWER THE CALL,” the post said. “We refuse to sit by as our community is terrorized and brutalized by the government. We must stand together and show we want more protections against ICE from our university, and we want ICE off campus and out the Valley!”
CSUN isn’t the only school in the area to plan a protest against ICE in the coming week. According to The San Fernando Sun, students from more than 40 schools across the San Fernando Valley are expected to participate in a school walkout on Feb. 6 to voice opposition to ICE.
As ICE presence and arrests continue to increase in comparison to last year, many are standing up against it. According to ABC7, protesters marched across Downtown Los Angeles on Friday, demanding ICE be removed from their communities.
CSUN’s “ICE OUT OF THE 818” rally is open to all students and is expected to begin at noon.
