For students who have put off their spring cleaning, Associated Students (AS) Refill and Repair event is the perfect way to get started. The first event of the semester will kick off on Feb. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the weekly farmer’s market.

AS has partnered with Menos Más, a small business which provides supplies for students to refill their containers. Free soaps, shampoo, conditioner and other cleaning supplies will be available.
Students are encouraged to come out to Matador Square and bring their own reusable containers, though some will be provided.
Elizabeth Cartojano, AS sustainability coordinator, said the event is hosted for students to engage in different sustainability habits.
“When you refill your own container, you’re pretty much diverting that container from [a] landfill,” Cartojano said.
The repair portion of the event happens when students bring clothes with rips or damages to be mended. Three on-site seamstresses from the nonprofit organization Quilting for Community will be available to get the job done within a few hours, depending on the type of request.
“A lot of students like to just, like, drop it off before their classes,” Cartojano said. “When they’re done, they’re able to pick it up.”
There are only three Refill and Repair events throughout the semester due to a fixed budget. The other two events are set for March 24 and April 21 during the same time frame.
