Take some time out of your day Thursday to learn about what is important about a gluten-free diet and the affects of celiac disease.
A taste-testing event Wednesday hosted by a Family and Consumer Sciences class in SQ 112 at 12 p.m. will offer samples of gluten-free products.
The samples offered are products developed by students in the class, said professor Ritamarie Little.
A gluten-free diet and celiac disease, a condition that affects the small intestine and prevents it from absorbing foods will be discussed at the event. Some of the featured topics will include disease causes, treatment, common misconceptions and current research.
Gluten-Free CSUN became a new student group at the end of October with the mission to “increase accessibility to gluten-free foods and environments on-campus and in the surrounding area.”
“It has been a dream of mine to create this support on-campus for students living gluten-free,” Janelle Smith, president of the student group, who has been living with celiac disease for more than three years.
Gluten-Free CSUN is hosting a lecture on Thursday at 1 p.m. in Sequoia Hall 112 called “Gluten-Free 101,” which will be presented by Smith, who founded the program.
