Students opened up and discussed issues they face at the Pride Center’s first Tuesday Talks event.

Tuesday Talks is a discussion group where students and individuals can come to the Pride Center and discuss topics relating to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning (LGBTQ) community.

“The Pride Center offers this because we feel that it is important for students to be able to talk about their own experiences and have a space where they can connect with others.” said Sarina Loeb, coordinator of the Pride Center. “(They can) talk about what it’s like to be LGBTQ or issues faced within the LGBTQ community.”

Students wrote down topics that they want to discuss on a piece of paper and would then pull topics throughout the event to talk about. The topics ranged from coming out to problems faced within the community.

I think it is very important for students and individuals to come together and speak about issues that they face and try to get it out of their system,” said Kimberly White, 20, junior sociology major and clerical assistant at the Pride Center.

Loeb said a highlight of the event is seeing people have the courage to share their experiences and seeing faces that she has not seen in the Pride Center before.

“The goal of this event is to really provide the space where students feel comfortable to connect with each other and talk about their experiences,” said Loeb.

Tuesday Talks are from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. and are open to everyone.
