CORRECTION: The photo caption said there was a bomb threat. There was no bomb threat on campus, officers checked a suspicious package in the Sierra Center.
The Sierra Center was briefly evacuated Friday around 9:30 a.m. and CSUN PD Cpl. Tom Finnerty with K-9 Isy entered the premises. Students and faculty were allowed to reenter the facility after a few minutes.
An officer saw a suspicious unattended box inside the center and called it in. The K-9 unit on duty was sent to the location and cleared the package according to CSUN PD public information officer Christina Villalobos.
The outside seating area had begun to be evacuated but the K-9 unit was able to clear the package quickly, so the alert was called off.
“Officers are on alert given what’s been going on the past few days,” Villalobos said. “Luckily it wasn’t anything of concern.”
