The chair of the CSUN sociology department was not injured in a car accident at the intersection of Plummer Avenue and Wilbur Avenue Wednesday around noon.

Herman L. DeBose was struck by a beige Nissan Maxima that he said ran the red light at the intersection. DeBose’s gray Toyota Prius struck a fence belonging to a property owner at 9501 Wilbur Ave.

Kurt Miller, the homeowner, said he constructed the fence because of a history of accidents at the intersection he has observed since purchasing the property in 1997.

According to witnesses, the driver of the beige Nissan Maxima was taken from the scene in an ambulance. Police are investigating the accident and have not released the driver’s name.
