With the first round of the 2015 Big West Championship completed, the CSUN women’s golf team finished the day in sixth place with a score of 307 at El Macero Country Club on Sunday.
Eight strokes out of the top-four, the Matadors are 19 over-par opening round. The defending champion UC Davis Aggies is the first round leader after posting an opening round of 288. Hawaii is second at 291, while Cal Poly is third at 293. UC Riverside is fourth at 299 and Long Beach State rounds out the top five at 304. Cal State Fullerton (313) and UC Irvine (313) are tied with Matadors in seventh-place.
Senior Elisabeth Haavardsholm and junior Arinda Bhanaraksa opened the tournament with a four-over 76 on Sunday and both are tied for 18th place. Bhanaraksa was four-over on the front nine but finished even-par on the back nine. Haavardsholm finished at one-over on the front nine.
Senior Sharon Shin opened her first round with a five-over 77 and is tied for 23rd. Sharon finished the front nine at four-over. She finished the back nine at one-over and five-over for the day.
Sophomore Cesilie Hagen opened the first round with a six-over 78, tied for 27th. Sophomore Rebecca Bostrom, competing in her first conference championship, began her opening round with a 13-over 85, tied for 40th.
CSUN will be paired with Long Beach State and UC Riverside and will tee off round two Monday at 9:40 a.m. at the El Macero Country Club.
