Hambourg-born DJ and producer Sidney Charles released his latest EP “On My Mind” with Dutch native DJ Chris Stussy’s record label Up the Stuss. Charles presents five tracks of melodic, groove-driven house tunes that have established him as a favorite on the international scene.
Charles, who is most known for his deep, groove-focused house productions and as head of record label Heavy House Society, takes an interesting new turn here by mixing intimacy with raw club energy in the way that few of his more recent colleagues have been able to do.
“On My Mind” is not a typical house EP – it’s a moment to feel the intimate energy on the dancefloor. A catchy melodic hook that lasts long after the music fades is created by the track’s silky vocals and bouncy rhythm.
Charles draws inspiration from both a feeling of nostalgia and invention to create a track that is timeless, yet uniquely his own in a time when many house producers recycle well-known sounds. This EP is especially amazing because of Charles’ ability to find a balance between cohesiveness and diversity.
Every one of the five tracks carefully navigates various rhythmic and emotional areas. “The Missing Link” presents a smooth, glossy texture that connects the EP’s darker moods with lighter styles, while “Astral Express” follows a more cosmic approach; its pulsating energy creates a sensation of late-night restlessness.
This trip is continued in “Till The Early Mornin,” which has flowing grooves that refer to both reflection and closure just before sunset.
Charles’s friendship with Stussy is one of the release’s most noteworthy features. The EP’s creative energy is influenced by their long-standing relationship and mutual admiration, which gives the music a feeling of understanding and purpose.
This sounds more like an organic connection than a strictly professional one, and audiences can hear that in every beat and groove. “Cardinal Virtue” brings everything together with its powerful low-ends, shimmering textures and a ton of energy fit for a dance floor.
Piccadilly Records reported limited editions of “On My Mind” are selling out fast, which is evidence of both Charles’ reputation and the EP’s excellent quality and widespread appeal among DJs and collectors. His wider creative growth is evident in this fusion of intimacy and club intensity.
Seemingly less concerned in repeating patterns, Charles appears to be more focused in creating moments that have an emotional and physical impact after years of dominating dance floors with heavyweight grooves and house anthems.
The whole project has a subtle sense of confidence, with nothing seeming hurried or forced. Rather than being a collection of separate tracks, each transition flows naturally into the next, producing a seamless, immersive experience.
Charles shows how feeling – rhythm, tension and release – rather than excess is what makes house music so successful. This EP grabs attention through skill instead of relying on noise to command it. By the last track, listeners will be locked into the groove.
