I walked past armed security and into the Beverly Hilton's International Ballroom wearing flip-flops. It was Election Night, and on short notice, I was entering Arnold Schwarzenegger's GOP layer. Everyone at the party was waiting for an official declaration of victory followed by what would turn out to be a brief, yet festive, victory speech.

Junior Calvin Chitwood scored a career-high 30 points to lead the Cal State Northridge men's basketball team to a 102-98 win over Eastern Washington at the Matadome on Dec. 3. Chitwood's performance earned him Big West Player of the Week honors on Dec. 4, his first such honor.

Men’s swimming defeats Cal Poly, women’s places fourth

The CSUN men's swimming team defeated Big West Conference opponent Cal Poly Mustangs by a score of 188-106, but the women's team finished fourth at the Cal Poly Invitational on Dec. 2 at Sinsheimer pool. The men's team only competed against Cal Poly while the women's team on top of Cal Poly had to deal with Loyola Marymount, University of San Diego and the University of Nevada, Reno as well.

Tourism management replaces leisure studies

Mexican music performances bring diversity to campus

To celebrate the holiday season, the CSUN Educational Opportunity Program organized a musical event called Fiesta Navidad, which explored the diversity of Mexican musical and dance culture. The event featured two musical groups brought from Mexico, Trio Tradicion Mexicana and Orquesta Marimba Hermanos Aquino, as well as Conjuto Hueyapan, Mariachi Estrella de Jalisco, Pacifico Dance Company and singer Ixya Herrera.

Gay and lesbian film festival addresses contemporary issues

In an effort to promote tolerance and understanding, the College of Humanities kicked off its first annual international film festival at the Armer Theater, located in Manzanita Hall, on Dec. 1, by featuring nine films that dealt with transgender issues and non-heterosexuality in an international context.

The Daily Sundial retracts the implied connection between Hookah Source on Reseda Boulevard and information contained in an article Monday titled, "Hookah: popular but dangerous habit." Hookah Source was not the subject of the article and was wrongly misrepresented in photographs.

Fire tamed in Moorpark after scorch

The Los Angeles Fire Department lends a hand to Ventura County after a rapid fire carried by 60 mph winds scorched the hills and neighborhoods of Moorpark, Dec. 3. Some L.A. County departments were called in yesterday to help control remaining embers, debris and flames.

Forgive the CSUN women's basketball team for feeling a little under the weather all week. The flu had rapidly spread throughout the players and coaching staff as far back as last weekend. The latest to be consumed by the illness bug was 6-foot-4-inch sophomore center Crystal Hahs.

Students present research, creativity

The 11th Annual Student Research and Creative Works Symposium held on Friday was a comprehensive display of a number of CSUN students' academic and artistic aptitude, imagination and intellect. The symposium featured the research and work of graduate and undergraduate students from all the colleges that CSUN houses with 41 poster presentations on display at the Grand Salon in the University Student Union, and 84 oral presentations scheduled throughout the day.
