Alumni win student Emmy award for ‘Dogumentary’

CSUN alumni filmmakers won third place for a documentary that began as a senior film project at the 29th Annual College Television Arts held by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Director Kate Ryan and producer Cristina Ramirez-Mares won a "student Emmy" for "Point of View: A Dogumentary" at the ceremony at Culver Studios on March 15.

The anti-war march took place March 15, and it has taken place annually since the occupation of American troops in Iraq. This year the march started off at the Hollywood and Vine METRO red line station ending in front of the CNN building in Sunset. This year's march proved to be a very peaceful rally, in which many people, even the cops, took some time off from the protest to either pose for the camera or mingle amongst each other.

Iranian youth continue sexual revolution against government

A seven-year research study has revealed that Iranian youths are embarking in a sexual revolution, or 'enqelab-i-jensi' in Iran to revolt against the government's laws. Pardis Mahdavi, assistant professor at Pomona College, conducted research from 2000 to 2007 in the urban city of Tehran where she interviewed 110 youths on the sexual movement.

A.S. unveils plans for student voting alternative

Associated Students unveiled an alternative to student voting during the meeting Tuesday afternoon. Alternative consultation is a policy that would collect data, research and surveys to better evaluate the decision of whether or not to raise tuition fees if Governor Schwarzenegger's proposed budget cuts are approved, which are threatening students with an increase in tuition fees.

EPC tackles confusion about GE classes

The Educational Policies Committee discussed Wednesday switching the General Education sections in Plan R that are causing confusion among students and advisers. Plan R is the new general education plan implemented by the campus three years ago. The problem with the program became apparent when some graduating seniors this semester had missing requirements in the sections that they thought they had already fulfilled.

War still stirs anger five years later

I was in San Francisco last Wednesday when I saw an elderly man walking around holding a tree branch with a President Bush doll hanging from it by a noose. This was his way of protesting the war in Iraq on its five year anniversary. I had been in San Francisco for spring break and had lost track of the days.

Northridge ready for conference play

During Spring Break, the CSUN baseball team won three games and dropped five to even its record at 10-10. On March 14, the Matadors traveled to Hattiesburg, Miss. to play a two-game series with both Liberty University and the University of Southern Mississippi.

FASMODE dances their way to unity

Professors talk on AIDS epidemic in South Africa

Approximately 22.5 million people were living with HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa in 2007, the website for HIV InSite indicates. About 5.5 million people are HIV-positive and about 380,000 people are expected to die this year in South Africa because of AIDS.

Matadors defeated by Boise State, 5-2

The CSUN women's tennis team lost back-to-back matches for the second time this season. On Sunday, the No. 70 nationally-ranked Matadors lost to No. 46 Boise State University (13-4) at the Matador Tennis Complex, 5-2. "Experience played a key role," senior Kanykey Koichumanova said.

After spending a week ranked No. 1 in the nation in a tie with Penn State, adversity has hit them lately. ?The Matadors are back to a No. 2 ranking, just one point behind Penn State, despite the fact that neither team played last week.
