Men’s basketball: Braswell quotes from Thursday

CSUN Head Coach Bobby Braswell spoke at a press conference Thursday at the university. These were some of his comments, followed by an interpretation:

- “The student athletes (Deon Tresvant and Dallas Rutherford) will be withheld from competition until these issues are further clarified.”

This means Tresvant and Rutherford will miss the next four games at the least, seeing how their court date is Jan. 26.

- “We will continue to support these young men throughout this process.”

Pretty self-explanatory. Everyone on the team is said to be on the two players’ side.

- “During the pendency of their legal matter, the students will continue to attend classes and other curricular activities.”

We will see these players around campus.

- “We are going to allow them to practice. The more we thought about it, what these guys need is support from their teammates. But they won’t be traveling with the team.”

We will see these players in uniform around The Matadome, just not on game days.

- “Any time you deal with the criminal system, things change. We don’t know where things are headed. We’re just going to let it play itself out.”

Until proven guilty, they can’t take drastic measures.

- “Right now, I’m ‘daddy,’ and I have to protect the privacy of my family.”

He won’t talk about family issues.

- (About why he didn’t bail out his son right away) “I fulfilled a promise I made to my kids. We (the Braswell’s) did what we felt was best four our family at that particular time.”

Seems like Braswell promised his children a long time ago that if they ever were arrested, they’d remain in jail for a number of days. That’s my guess. He wouldn’t specify on what he meant. He also said his son, Jeffrey, wasn’t surprised that his dad left him in jail. Jeffrey Braswell was arrested Jan. 3 and bailed out three days later.

- “The administration is why I’ve hanged around here for as long as I have. They’ve been very supportive. They understand that we work very hard here to do things the right way. I appreciate that support.”

CSUN is backing up Braswell. No one’s going to fire him.

- “There’s a process you go through when you go through any difficulty. It’s the three F’s: Faith, family and friends. Those close in our circle are praying for us and supporting us.”

Braswell said this when asked whether his relationship with his church had changed because of the incident.

- “I can’t worry about that. All I can do is live the life that I’ve tried to live and be the man I’ve tried to be. People are always going to have opinions, but I don’t worry about that. My concern is doing what’s right.”

Braswell said this when asked about what this incident might do to the way in which people view him, as the head coach at CSUN. He’s not going to quit.

- “Those things that don’t kill you only make you stronger.”

The thought of the day at practice for the Matadors, Braswell said.

- “I have some strong feelings about all of this, about the role that I play as a coach and as a father. Unfortunately, it’s not the right time to share them.”

Braswell is willing to talk about his personal thoughts, but will wait until the legal process gives a verdict.

Those quotes are the standouts from the 20-minute press conference. Starting forward Willie Galick also talked to reporters. His quotes are coming soon.

Update on the CSUN basketball program!!! I wanted to see if the racist
pastor had soften his stance on other religious groups but apparently not.
The Father of Dallas The Dounce and the Pastor of Shepard of The Thieves
took shots at the scientologists as well as the buddhists and mormons.
This idioc Pastor shows his lack of knowledge and lack of respect of all those people. I suggest that The pastor is a hypocrit once again as he
has no clue to the world tolerance. Isn’t this the same racist pastor who
won’t deal with his son’s criminal acts or that of his ministry. Dudley the
racist, I had enough of your racist talk and find your new comments deplorable. I saw the obese coordinator there with her little ear piece.
To all Dudley clones, This man shows that he is inept and stupid.
I hope Dallas the dounce and the rest of the thieves are put on trial.
I would love to see the dounce in jail with his hypocrit dad in the next jail ceil.

There is information floating around different blogs that there is a lot of Best Buy merchandise for sale around the CSUN campus. Does anyone know about this?

  • CSUNdave

Responding back to Whoever, I think your comments are so stupid that
maybe you’ll graduate one day. I think that you sound like another member of the Shepard of The Thieves shouting society. The problem is Like that of other cults, You lost your mind to a religious hypocrit. I think that Dallas The Dounce, Bobby Braswell’s little thief and yourself should
meet and call your organization, Idiots for Dudley. maybe you should park your mind and common sense there. I have an idea Maybe You can rob
Walmart’s and if your hungry go to In n’out and rob them too. Maybe
if want a cell phone, maybe you can plan a heist at Verizon. All I have to say, Maybe at Shepard of the thieves I can learn to rob too.

I have a message for Kenya, Are you a clone of the racist Pastor’s church?
Sounds like We are hitting the target. If I were you Kenya, I would look at the activities of the racist pastor and then see that my viewpoint is very solid. The true is that alot of the clones are so wrapped into their own
hatred that this story only shows the viewer of the real problem. I think you should go into Best Buy and maybe fix the cash register and then
steal!! go ahead Kenya. Kenya the hypocrit you like those I meet on Sunday early morning are only a click away from the word, Insanity.
Maybe you show plan out your heist!! you think that you’ll get away!!
I call your comments, Infantile and stupid.

  • Kenya

    CSUN DAVE,
    Man, you are so hate-filled.

  • CSUNdave

Commenting on Dudley the racist’s blog, I did some research and found that the father of the alleged criminal is in complete denial of his son and the other shepard of the thieves crooks. This is the same man who has
such a hate for gays, moslems, Oprah Winfrey and Howard Stern that
his blog is as lame as this man integrity. so there is a story behind the
father of Dallas the dounce and his arrogance and self centered behavior
lead to his son’s legal problem. Dudley all I have to say from your blog,
What glass house are you throwing at!! When the shoe fits!! wear it!!!

  • CSUNdave

I think that when all is said and done, CSUN made a rotten decision .
I have a suggestion, have The Pastor of Shepard of the thieves should be attending a work shop on gay awareness and made to sit through the
tragedies facing Gay America. I think that Dallas is a perfect example
of how one rotten pareny can screw up one boy’s life. As for the
bible belt phonies such as Bobby Braswell and his group should be sentenced to hypocrisy 101.

  • Whoever

    CSUNdave,

How is the CSUN basketball program excelling if the boys in question are being WITHHELD from competition?
    That’s not satisfactory for you?
Are you saying that because those players are still practicing, they are augmenting the basketball skills and talent of their teammates to go and compete WITHOUT THEM?

I suspect you don’t play too much basketball, do you?

According to yours and my judicial system, once bail has been posted, defendants are free to resume life as usual (with the exception of leaving the state or country) until a court deems them guilty. THEN, you are sent to prison.

Do you at least watch LAW & ORDER?

In terms of being a parent, Braswell let his son sit in jail for 3 days before bailing him out. Pretty good lesson. But, that’s just the “prelude” to the real lesson his son will have if he is actually found guilty.

    Lemme guess,
not too big on parental punishment for the kiddies either, huh?

    Finally,
WHERE ARE YOU GETTING THIS PASTOR DUDLEY INFORMATION?
Can you back these statements up with VALID PROOF?

Please quote me when I say that I don’t know if Pastor Dudley is a racist or a homophobe, but, I have to ask you…

    Are you a college graduate?

Since when is the word HOMOPHOBIC analogous to being RACIST?

    tsk tsk tsk

  • CSUNdave

I think Bobby Braswell shows lack of leadership and displine
When the press conference broke, all I say is that CSUN has a bad parential example in Bobby Braswell. This man is such a hypocrite.
If i were the coach of the matadors, I would ask that all 4 immature and
stupid basketball players be cut. This event sends the wrong signal to our
kids and community. through this controversy, I think less of Bobby Braswell as he shows he is both inept and very selfish man. If any of you
were caught stealing merchandise you would be sent to prison. I feel
that the whole matter is total hypcrisy by CSUN department of athletes.
The actions taken by these players were criminal and shouldn’t be given
another chance. I think that Dallas’s father, Dudley the racist pastor
has shown no remorse and is the most a false leader in the cross.
I think that this situation shows all that CSUN is so desperate for their
basketball program to excel that criminal acts don’t mean anything.
I think Pastor Dudley the racist should be held accountable for his statements of gay bashing and homophobic problems. i think that the
press should further investigate the racist pastor and his tatics.

Great write up. Thank you very much. People usually inserted in CSUN have to wait days for the news if ever. Where was the press conference held? How many people where there? And whom?
