CSUN’s Joint Advocates on Disordered Eating (JADE) and the Gender and Women’s Studies Student Association (GWSSA) will host Love Your Body Day, a national day of action to speak out against harmful media images and unrealistic standards of beauty, on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Sierra Quad.“Hollywood and the fashion, cosmetics and diet industries work hard to make each of us believe that our bodies are unacceptable and need constant improvement,” said the Love Your Body Day website. “Together we can fight back.”

JADE and the GWSSA will be handing out “I love my body” pins and literature about eating disorders to better inform students about the impact of media and consumer culture on womens perceptions of beauty as well as accepting submissions to the Love Your Body Day poster contest.

The winner of the Love Your Body Day poster contest will receive a parking pass for Spring 2012.

“To combat these images we need to educate (people) about body image, healthy eating and what the ‘right’ type of body is,” said Karen Medina, GWSSA president.

The day’s festivities will conclude with a film screening of “America the Beautiful,” a documentary about body representation of women in the U.S., at the Women’s Research and Resource Center at 7:00 p.m.

Awesome!  I can finally give up shaving, soap and showers!  Then I’ll be forced to love my body since no one else will be particularly interested.

Your gonna have to give it up. The Government is going to ban soap because of it’s harmful effects to the environment.
