The Matador Involvement Center held its first day of “Meet the Clubs” where students met with many clubs and organizations.

Some of the organizations were giving away free candy and pens while others were having fundraisers.

Augie Garibay, activities coordinator of clubs and organizations, said this semester there were 142 clubs and organizations, fraternities and sororities at the event.

Club members provided their own music with computers from their booths to attract more students to their table.

Members of the Jishin Taiko Club played their drums as they taught students to play the drums and where Taiko comes from.

“Every year (there are) about 35 new clubs (and) 20 to 25 who don’t comeback,” said
Garibay.

“We welcome all majors that studies anything but still has that interest [in fashion],” said Danae Vartanian, 21, senior apparel and merchandise major and president of TRENDS Student Organization.

TRENDS allows students to learn about fashion and how to design and create their own clothing.

Vartanian said they have a spring fashion show where students showcase and put together a full clothing line.

The Student Dietetic and Food Science Association booth had healthy food and a variety of small tubes to demonstrate to students the amount of sugar and salt that is in certain foods.

Jacqui Cooper, 22, senior nutrition dietetics and food science major and member of the organization, said they have fundraising events such as “food day.”

“I love it, I love the energy, I love the people walking around, a lot of conversation [is] happening,” said Garibay.
