CSUN President Jolene Koester to step down and retire

CSUN President Jolene Koester will retire by the end of Fall 2011. Koester sent out an email earlier today announcing her plan to faculty and students. Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Harry Hellenbrand who has worked with Koester said she will be missed. “It’s a big loss to us all – personally and collectively,” Hellenbrand said. A.S. election results

A.S. election results are in. Amanda Flavin and Sydni Powell from Strength in Diversity won the bid for the presidency. Along with deciding who their new representatives will be for the 2011-12 school year, students voted and passed the sole constitutional amendment on the ballot, which proposed to move the A.S. elections from twice a year to once a year in the spring semester. Chatsworth fire

Update: The fire has been knocked down. (3:03 p.m.) Two to three acres are burning in Chatsworth. Matt Levesque, an inspector with the Los Angeles County Fire Department said no homes are threatened by the fire. Both the L.A. county and city units are on scene. Levesque said the county fire department dispatched three helicopters and two Super Scoopers that are dropping water overhead. The fire was first reported at 1:51 p.m., Levesque said. California Faculty Association releases report revealing mismanagment of public, private funds

The California Faculty Association (CFA)  has released a report that shows public and private funding, such as those generated by revenue operations like auxiliary organizations, have been mixed. The report states the CSU Chancellor’s Office, including the CSU system’s executive vice chancellor and chief financial officer, were aware that public money was being improperly deposited in auxiliary organizations, according to the CFA. CSUN’s Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Terry Piper dies

UPDATE: The memorial service honoring Piper will be held Monday, May 17, 2010 at 2 p.m. on the Manzanita Hall Lawn. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Terry D. Piper Endowment. Dr. Terry Piper, vice president for Student Affairs, who had taken an indefinite leave at the beginning of the spring semester to focus on his health, died Thursday, May 13. CSUN student and alumna die in car crash on Roscoe Boulevard

A CSUN student and alumna have been identified as two of the four victims of a fatal crash. Danielle Wolf, 22, and Kristin Norris, 22, were in a yellow 2007 Chevrolet Corvette that crashed at high speed on Thursday. Two males accompanied Wolf and Norris. Det.
