Tresvant pleads not guilty

CSUN leading scorer Deon Tresvant and Jeffrey Braswell, Head Coach Bobby Braswell’s son, entered a not-guilty plea today at San Fernando Superior Court.

A preliminary hearing was set for March 16.

Tresvant and Braswell were both accused of theft at a Best Buy on New Year’s Day.

Actor Phannuel Gbewonyo, allegedly also involved in the thefts, pleaded the same way.

The three men were all represented by attorneys and limited themselves to acknowledging their pleas while their defenders did all the talking. One of the attorneys asked to not let cameras shoot the arraignment. The judge, commissioner Jeffrey Harkavy, denied the request.

It was a morning of wait for Tresvant and Braswell. It took nearly two hours for them to finally step up to the podium. Tresvant was accompanied by his father while Braswell was there with his entire family.

Dallas Rutherford, who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor grand theft last month over the same case, was not present. However, his sister – Kayla Rutherford – made an appearance.

It’s still uncertain what today’s plea means for Tresvant’s future with the team, which plays its final home game of the season Saturday before going on a regular season-ending, two-game road trip next week.
