This season is blooming with love and fluttering hearts in anticipation of Valentine’s Day, but what about those of us who can’t seem to get it right with that special someone? Fear not! There are solutions so that we can all partake in the lovely festivities of this ever-so-over-rated holiday.
There are those of us who have significant others, those who just want to hang out with friends, those who have broken hearts and those who just flat-out hate their ex.
Those of you who have significant others, I hope you have a lovely time, but this may not be of any help to you my friend!
Broken Hearts
For those of us in the “broken-heart” category, there are a few activities that may help take your mind off of the one who grabbed your heart and heartlessly smashed it to pieces. It is okay to have your heart broken every now and then it might hurt the a lot more around this time of year, but it’s time to get out of your slump and show the world that you will not be broken for long!
Do something nice for yourself, like a day at the spa. For just $49 you can get an hour-long massage, either deep-tissue or Swedish style at Massage Envy. The travel time from campus after a day in class is minimal as there is a business is located at the Albertson’s and Walgreens shopping center across CSUN.

Just Want To Be with Friends
Just because cupid hasn’t found you a significant other yet, that doesn’t mean your friends can’t step in and fill the void for the day. There are some of us who are just looking to have a good time with the rest of our single friends.
Round up a group of friends and plan a trip to Brunswick Matador Bowl. They have any amazing evening special on Thursday with $1.25 per game, and $2.50 for shoe rental. With all that money you saved, cash in a few dollars for some quarters to take over to the arcade, or grab a pizza, hot dog, or indulge in a cold beer.

The special does not begin until 9 p.m. and will not close until 1 a.m.
I Hate My Ex
Hanging out with friends is great, but sometimes friends can’t even lighten the mood when it comes to those who are still angry over their past relationship.
Those who may take Valentine’s Day the hardest probably got out of a relationship recently for unfortunate reasons and can sternly say that they hate their ex.
Watching others walk around hand-in-hand with their significant others can push some buttons no one never knew they had.
Instead of being angry, let’s focus on channeling that energy into a fun recreational activity: a day at the batting cages.
Not too far down the road from CSUN is the World Series Batting Cages. It may help to envision an ex’s face on the fence as you whip the bat back and forth as the balls are being thrown at you. You can choose the speed that the balls will be thrown, with 80 mph being your highest option. The cages are open until 10 p.m. on Valentine’s Day.

Just because you can’t go out to dinner and a movie with your significant other this year does not mean that you can’t have fun. Those age-old dinner dates get old anyway, it’s time to own and declare your single life and make the most out of it!
